Laser & Radio Ablation
Laser & Radio Ablation of Varicose Veins
LASER or RADIO-ABLATION of VARICOSE VEINS are thermal (heat damaging) methods for destroying straight varicose veins (usually in the thigh), but cannot remove tortuous varicose veins and branches. Varicose veins have a relatively high rate of recurrence no matter which treatment is used.
Endovenous Laser or Radio-oblation is expensive but has been used with good results in some centres treating varicosities involving larger trunks of varicose veins. However, in our experience, patients who have had previous laser treatment have required subsequent DGFS treatment of the residual smaller branch varicosities, without any apparent advantage or reduction in the number of attendances as compared to DGFS alone.
Superglue ablation also appears at this stage, to offer no further advantage as compared with DGFS/ VGS, treatment carried out at WAVC.
WE USE DUPLEX GUIDED FOAM SCLEROTHERAOPY (DGFS) &/or VGS, AT WA VASCULAR CENTRE, AND WE HAVE TREATED OVER 20,000 LEGS WITH DGFS AND HAVE FOUND THIS IS VERY SAFE AND AT LEAST AS EFFECTIVE AS SURGERY OR THE OTHER METHODS IN TREATING VARICOSE VEINS.
